The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat announced Tuesday that it had decided to count the trade center’s 408-foot spire in its height measurement, making it an official 1,776 feet tall, taller than the 1,451-foot Willis Tower in Chicago. Without the spire, the trade center would have been 1,368 feet.

The committee is recognized as the final arbiter of building heights around the world.
