WATCH: (Scroll Down For Video) A burglar was scared off by a World War 2 veteran who pulled out his 1911 handgun after hearing a window smash.

The burglar broke into a home owned by Joseph Milspaugh, aged 92, in Santa Jacinto at around 8:15a.m.

Mr Milspaugh reported to NBC: ‘Being a Sunday, he assumed that people would be going shopping or going to church and no one would be home, that it would be a good time to break in,’

At the time of the burglary, Mr Milspaugh was lying down but was awake at the time.

After he heard a smash, he grabbed a gun and began looking for the would-be-thief.

He fired one shot as a warning to the burglar.

That’s when Mr Milspaugh said: ‘And he took off. He left his ax and he left his hat and he left everything else,’

‘I could have shot him straight in the head, right between the eyes, but I didn’t want to do that, because I’d have been in trouble.’

Anyone with any information regarding the incident is asked to call the San Jacinto Police Department on 951-654-2702.
