On Sunday, April 28, 2019, at approximately 7:47 p.m., two uniformed police officers from the Sacramento Police Department were in a marked police vehicle in the area of Del Paso Boulevard and El Camino Avenue. One officer was driving, and the other officer was riding as a passenger.

As the officers were in the area, they observed a subject running away from a security guard. The officers stopped to help the security guard. As the officers helped the security guard with detaining the subject, he spit in the face of an officer multiple times. Additional officers responded to the scene to assist. The officers put a spit mask on the subject to prevent him from spitting.

“Our officers involved in this incident appropriately used a spit mask to protect themselves and defuse the situation. I am grateful that our officers were willing to proactively intervene when they observed suspicious activity, and that nobody was injured during this encounter.” -Chief Daniel Hahn
