Kirtland AFB Lock Down Lifted After Report Of Active Shooter

UPDATE: The lockdown has now been lifted at Kirtland, Sandia Base & Wherry elementaries

The lockdown on Kirtland AFB has been lifted. The base went into a precautionary lockdown following reports of gun shots on the west side of the base. Security Forces could not substantiate the claims of gunfire and has determined there is no threat to the base.

Kirtland Air Force Base has now been placed on lockdown due to multiple unconfirmed reports of an active shooter on the west side of the base.

According to local media, the Veterans Affairs hospital next to the base has now been placed on shelter-in-place.

No one is allowed in or out of the building at this present time.

Kirtland, Wherry and Sandia Base elementary schools have been placed on lockdown as well due to the situation, according to Albuquerque Public Schools.
