1 Dead, 30 Injured After Driver Plows in Crowd Outside Las Vegas Hotel

NEVADA — At least one person was killed and at least 30 have been injured, ten critically, when a car plowed into a group of pedestrians in Las Vegas Sunday night.

The incident took place at around 6:40pm on Sunday evening on the Las Vegas Boulevard in front of the Paris Hotel & Casino and Planet Hollywood.

During a press conference at the incident site, Las Vegas Police Captain Brett Zimmerman said that this was an intentional act.

He went on to say that the African American driver, around 20 years old, hit pedestrians on two sections of the sidewalk, there was a toddler in the back seat.

Zimmerman reported that the suspect drove onto the sidewalk, hitting pedestrians, then began to drive onto it again moments later, striking more people.

He also confirmed that this was not an act of terrorism. The driver was detained by police at a nearby hotel.

Six of ten victims who were in critical condition are now stable, and four others have been treated for minor injures and released.

More than 70 first responders arrived to the gruesome crash site.

The vehicle was going northbound in the northbound lanes on S. Las Vegas boulevard. When it reached Balagio way it went onto the sidewalk and struck bystanders, went back onto the road and then drove into the Paris entrance.

Clark County fire issued a new release: “At approximately 6:38 p.m. an individual drove on the sidewalk striking many pedestrians. There was one fatality and 36 others injured as a result. Six of the remaining were critical when transported. Patients in critical condition were transported to both Sunrise and UMC. Clark County Fire Department responded resources for a level 3 MCI which includes over 70 personnel and provides patient care for up to 50 patients. Further information and questions will be handled by Metro in the ongoing investigation.”

Police were withholding casino video while they investigated further. Dispatch radio could be heard discussing a 3 year old child as a passenger in the vehicle however it was unclear as to the relation of the child to the incident.

Additionally, there were reports of a shooting at Planet Hollywood. This report seems to be unfounded.
