GARDEN GROVE, California — On Wednesday morning, around 6:30, officers were sent to the 8900 block of Blossom Avenue for a domestic violence call with an injured female in front of the residence. Calling parties said the female was suffering from stab wounds and was bleeding.

Officers arrived on scene and learned the suspect was the 73-year-old husband to the victim. Several officers began rendering first aid to the 36-year-old victim and learned from her that her three children were still inside the residence. The victim told officers her family lived in the rear home of the duplex residence.Additional officers went to the rear portion of the home and confronted the armed suspect at the rear patio sliding door. The suspect was holding a knife and was bleeding from self-inflicted knife wounds. Officers began negotiating with the suspect asking him to surrender. A second team of officers entered the residence from another door and safely evacuated a 3-year-old boy and 6-year-old boy who were unharmed. The 11-year-old female was down on the floor with stab wounds in the same room as the suspect. As the officers in the rear yard were negotiating with the armed suspect, two officers were able to covertly grab the 11-year-old child and take her out of the house. Officers began first aid and life-saving efforts on her immediately.

Officers continued to negotiate with the suspect and eventually deployed less-lethal rounds from a bean-bag shotgun. The suspect was successfully disarmed and taken into custody. The mother and female child were taken to a local trauma center.

The female child died from her injuries at the hospital. The mother is being treatedfor multiple stab wounds and a gunshot wound. The suspect was taken to a different hospital for treatment for superficial self-inflicted knife wounds and is in police custody.
