SAVANNAH, GA – Savannah Police’s Violent Crimes detectives are investigating the shooting of a 12-year-old boy at the Bonaventure Funeral Home today.
Officers responded to the funeral home at 2520 Bonaventure Road about 3:15 p.m. today and discovered the boy suffering from life threatening injures. He was transported to a hospital for treatment.
A juvenile suspect was later arrested for the shooting.
Savannah Now reported: People in the area say shots rang out just after the funeral service for Ricky Jerome Boyd, the 20-year-old murder suspect killed by police last month after he reportedly pointed a BB gun at officers.
About 6:15 a.m. on Jan. 23, U.S. Marshals and metro officers responded to the 100 block of Marian Circle to serve a warrant related to the homicide of 24-year-old Balil Whitfield in the 2100 block of Hudson Street. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is still investigating the officer-involved shooting.
The Rev. Arleen Fuller said she had just finished leading a prayer for peace Saturday at Boyd’s service when she heard a string of gunshots.
“I was doing the eulogy and was talking about the young people about the crime and the violence,” Fuller said. “And I was asking them to stop and to not do retaliation…. Next thing you know we heard pop, pop, pop.”
