Two women were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the killing of a liquor store clerk during an attempted robbery three years ago, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Rosa Manuela Barrientos, 26, and Maria Michelle Inzunza, 28, both of Los Angeles, were found guilty on Aug. 31, 2018, of one count of murder with the special circumstance allegation that it was committed during a robbery and one count of attempted second-degree robbery.

Mohammed Kalam, 61, was fatally shot in the head by Barrientos as the two defendants tried to rob a liquor store on Sherman Way and Bellaire Avenue in North Hollywood on the evening of Sept. 24, 2016, prosecutors said.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department, Valley Bureau Homicide.
