BUNNELL, Florida — Flagler Sheriff’s Deputy James Miley was on patrol the morning of Saturday, June 20th, when he was dispatched to the busy intersection of Belle Terre Parkway and Braddock Lane in Palm Coast in reference to a young child in the roadway.

Deputy Miley made contact with the caller who was waiting with the child until he arrived. A bystander said she saw the child follow a dog across the south bound lanes of Belle Terre Parkway and onto the median when they quickly stopped the little girl from going into the roadway. The child was only wearing a t-shirt and a diaper.

A short time later, the mother of the child was located at her home on Bradmore Lane and reunited with the toddler who was unharmed. The mother said she had fallen asleep and when she went to check on the children, whom she thought were watching television, realized her 2 year old daughter was missing. The front door was found ajar and the family dog was also missing.

“I commend the quick actions of the bystanders who saw this little girl in need of help and Deputy Miley for caring for her until her mother was located,” said Sheriff James L. Manfre.

The Department of Children and Families was notified of the incident.
