CALIFORNIA – Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide detectives are conducting a shooting investigation and the family of the victim says there should be a hate crime probe into the incident.
The shooting was reported on Saturday, March 20, around 5:50 a.m. in the 1600 block of E. Kay St. in the city of Compton. The victim, Sia Marie Xiong, 28, was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
Najee Ali, an activist and the director of ‘Project Islamic Hope’ told ABC7 the family is seeking a hate crime investigation.
“There has been a dramatic increase of women of Asian descent being murdered or violently attacked nationwide,” Ali said.
Law enforcement has made no mention of a motive or what may have led up to the shooting.
“There is no known motive or any suspect information,” the sheriff’s office said. “There is no additional information available at this time.”
