5 Reasons Boxers for Women are the Next Big Thing

You may be noticing the new trend taking over women’s underwear: boxers for women. While Mark Wahlberg may have made boxers famous, women are about to make them a fashion staple.

Gone are the days where Victoria’s Secret or JCPenney were your only two options for buying panties that didn’t come in a 6-pack. And they still had a limited view on women’s underwear. As the decades have flown by, the undergarment needs for the modern woman have been ever-growing: sports bras, bralettes, binders, but most importantly, we need underwear that doesn’t get half stuck up our butts…The age of the internet has finally pulled through by making something women have been missing.

Boxers made for women check off every box when it comes to our everyday needs. Only in recent history have women ever even been allowed or offered to feel comfortable in their clothing, let alone their undergarments. But since we started burning the bras and adding a lot more pants to our wardrobe, the trend has been moving toward more inclusive and comfy coverage for our private bits.

1) Boxers are comfyyyyyy.

I’ll never understand how we accepted, for as long as we did, underwear with bands that dig into our hips,  and ones that ride up or fall down with any given movement throughout the day. Underwear should be flexible and breathable while also holding our shape. They also shouldn’t get in our way.

Boxers make you feel like you’re wearing nothing. No string up my butt, no twisting with my jeans, they just sit so nicely. Boxers are just great coverage. They sit mid-to-high on your waist leaving you feeling secure and supported. The material is also good for your…under area. For vagina owners, and even those who aren’t, it is a fairly moist area and having a well-made and supported fabric to allow for breathability is important.

The fact that men have had an option like this for years, really makes you wonder if this is why the pay gap exists? Because not all underwear has been treated equally?

2) Boxers are gender-inclusive.

Gender-inclusive branding is not limited to the transgender or gender non-conforming community (although this is very much made with those needs in mind). Gender-inclusive is also representing all the different types of women that are out there. Offering as much comfort and coverage as men’s traditional clothing and underwear is important in a world that is trying to step away from the binary. And that’s including our underwear drawer!

For so long, women have been subjected to fashion and undergarments that exploit our forms and expose the softest parts of us. People have made countless dollars on how much skin they’ve been able to show while still getting away with calling it clothing. By reclaiming the fabric that drapes us, we get to take ownership over those parts that need to be exposed just when we wear underwear.

3) You can wear them indoors or outdoors.

Boxers for women are great for underwear or sleep shorts, but they’re also great for the gym and for running errands. They’re thick enough to feel covered and the legs are long enough to feel safe to do so.

Having an inseam of 4” allows for them to double as workout shorts or going-for-a-walk shorts. Nothing better than having form fitting athletic wear already made with the breathability for your pelvis in mind. Their stretchy modal fabric will give you the flexibility and coverage to get all those squats in without worrying if you’re giving anybody else at the gym a show. This brand even has “Camelflage”- which is exactly what you think it is.

Underwear that you can feel comfortable wearing to the grocery store or even walking the dogs is very “in” right now. Versatility is what we need from our wardrobes in this day and age. We never know what our days might hold. From zoom meetings to errands to never leaving the house until forced to, we need to know we could just go whenever we need to.

4) You don’t have to feel sexualized just by being in underwear.

Growing up, I always slept in my underwear with a big t-shirt over me so I could still feel covered. Living with roommates has been a big shift for me. I’m used to sleeping in my underwear. And when I lived alone, walking around my house in just my underwear was an absolutely freeing experience. But with my cats opening my door in the middle of the night, I’ve had to adapt to wearing much more clothing, so as not to scandalize my roommates as they pass by my door or on a walk to the fridge.

Having underwear that doesn’t make me feel completely sexualized or that my ass is hanging out or just knowing that my hoo-ha will not make a special guest appearance is a huge sigh of relief. Underwear that I can walk around the house in is a game changer. I love to feel comfortable at home. Don’t get me wrong, I adore thongs and briefs, they have their place in my wardrobe. But for at home wear, for underwear I would feel safe walking down the street in, boxers are going to start being my go-to.

5) No more chafing.

Look there is nothing worse than chafing in the summer or jean rash on your inner thigh. And with underwear options always leaving your entire thigh exposed, there really was no way around it. Boxers have that lengthy inseam, now keeping the tips of those thunders protected.

A big win for women without that (I’m pretty sure made up) thigh gap. Boxers give us a solution to an all-summer long problem, and also a sometimes spring and fall problem. Having an OPTION that allows thigh protection and coverage will be a boost for the dress industry, I guarantee. The options are limitless when we give some ease and confidence to a woman in a killer dress.
