Authorities have reported the death of an 8-year-old girl after experiencing a “medical emergency” while under the custody of U.S. Border Patrol in Texas. The incident occurred at a facility located near the Mexico border in Harlingen.

The identity of the girl has not been disclosed, and further details remain undisclosed as well.

According to a statement from Customs and Border Protection, the station promptly called for Emergency Medical Services, who transported the girl to a local hospital. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the hospital.

As part of standard procedure following a death, the Office of Professional Responsibility will carry out an investigation. The agency has also notified the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General and the Harlingen Police Department regarding the incident.

This fatality follows the recent death of a 17-year-old unaccompanied migrant from Honduras, who passed away at a facility in Florida.
