ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, New Jersey — A Scout leader was attacked by a bear in the New Jersey woods last Sunday.

The incident happened around noon Sunday at Split Rock Reservoir in the Morris County community, according to the AP.

The victim was flown to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Three children were with the Christopher Petronino, 50, when the attack occurred. They were not harmed. Petronino was preparing to enter a cave when the bear grabbed his foot and pulled him inside.

It’s unclear what provoked the attack. New Jersey’s Environmental Protection Department is leading the investigation.
