Federal Charges Filed Against Man In Carlesha Gaither Abduction, Says He Chose Her At Random

Sources tell @CBSPhilly Barnes has confessed to Carlesha’s kidnapping and that he selected her at random.

UPDATE: Edward Hanko, special agent-in-charge of the FBI’s Philadelphia division, said agents acted on tips from the public to help track down Barnes’ car. Authorities tracked his car on Wednesday and a FBI Task Force from the agency’s Baltimore office moved in to take him into custody when he exited his car along the 7200 block of Waterloo Road in Jessup, Hanko said.

Barnes, who has ties to Philadelphia, apparently attacked Freeland-Gaither at random, detectives said. He is being held on a bench warrant out of Virginia for alleged capital attempted murder in Charles City County. NBC WASHINGTON

Suspects-Car

EARLIER: Carlesha Freeland-Gaither, 22, was found by FBI agents inside a parked car in Maryland. Delvin Barnes, 37, was arrested, officials said. He already had a warrant for his arrest at the time of the abduction. Officials said he has a violent past.

A family friend delivered a message from Carlesha’s Mother of Carlesha Freeland-Gaither: “Thank you so much for having us in your prayers. I’m taking my baby home.”

FBI officials do not believe Carlesha knew her abductor.
