Snellville, Georgia — A 29-year old man died yesterday as a result of an unfortunate incident. At around 11:15pm on Sunday, June 19, officers assigned to the South Precinct were dispatched to a traffic accident at 3273 Highpoint Court in unincorporated Snellville. The caller told the 911 Center that a car struck a person before crashing into a house.

The officers and members of the Gwinnett County Fire Department arrived at the home a few minutes later. The victim was immediately transported to Eastside Medical Center where he later died.

The Accident Investigation Unit (AIU) was called in to investigate the incident. The primary investigator determined the following:

Rita Watson (age 64) was the driver of a 2006 white Chevrolet Colorado. The vehicle had an attached trailer. Her son, Rashad Watson (age 29) was standing in between the vehicle and the building.

Rita lost control of the Chevrolet for reasons unknown and traveled forward on a downhill grade. The vehicle traveled toward Rashad. Rashad was unable to remove himself from the path of the vehicle before it struck him. After the vehicle struck Rashad, it continued forward and struck the house.

The building is a rental property with 4 homes. Rita and Rashad were in the process of moving into 3275 Highpoint Court.

The residents of 3273 were inside the home at the time of the collision, but they were all on the upper level. None of them were injured. They have been temporarily relocated due to the damage of the home.

The vehicle was impounded to Gwinnett County Police Department Headquarters for an inspection at a later time. Rita has not been charged with any crimes related to this incident pending the results of the inspection of the vehicle and further investigation.
