Video Shows Missing Girl Alicia Navarro Turning Up At Police Station After 4 Years
An Arizona teenager who vanished nearly four years ago has been found safe and unharmed after walking into a police station in Montana, authorities said.
Alicia Navarro, 18, from Glendale, unexpectedly appeared alone in a small town located approximately 40 miles from the Canadian border. She identified herself to the local police, who then contacted authorities in Glendale.
Navarro’s disappearance triggered an extensive search operation involving the FBI, and the police had received countless tips over the years. Her mother, Jessica Nunez, expressed concerns that Alicia, diagnosed as high-functioning on the autism spectrum, might have been lured away by someone she met online.
The specific name of the town in Montana was not immediately disclosed.
During a news conference, police spokesman Jose Santiago reassured the public, stating, “She is by all accounts safe, she is by all accounts healthy, and she is by all accounts happy.”
Investigators are now focusing on understanding what transpired after Navarro’s disappearance on September 15, 2019, when she was 14 years old. The teenager told the police that she had not suffered any harm during her time away.
Navarro told police she was not being held against her will and had the freedom to come and go as she pleased. The police emphasized that she does not face any criminal charges.
Santiago said, “She is not in any kind of trouble.”
When Navarro left her home, she left behind a signed note stating, “I ran away. I will be back, I swear. I’m sorry.”
According to Lt. Scott Waite, Navarro experienced an emotionally overwhelming reunion with her mother and apologized for the stress she had caused her.
A relieved Jessica Nunez confirmed that her daughter had been found but did not provide further details.
