On Monday, authorities declared that a suspect had been apprehended in the fatal shooting of Catholic Auxiliary Bishop David O’Connell.
Carlos Medina, a 65-year-old resident of Torrance, California was arrested by police in the Los Angeles area.
LA County Sheriff Robert Luna stated during a press conference on Monday that Medina alleged the bishop had owed him money, and that he had previously done handywork at the bishop’s home.
Medina’s wife also worked for the Bishop as a housekeeper.

O’Connell, a 69-year-old member of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, was discovered deceased inside his Hacienda Heights home on Janlu Avenue around 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated that O’Connell had been killed by a single gunshot wound to the upper torso and that the incident was being investigated as a homicide.
O’Connell had served in the Los Angeles Archdiocese since 1979 and hailed from County Cork, Ireland.
