FAIRFIELD TOWNSHIP, N.J. – The New Jersey State Police is investigating a fatal shooting that killed a man and a woman and injured 12 others at a residential party in Cumberland County last night. The area is a quiet, rural community, about 50 miles south of Philadelphia.

At 11:50 p.m., troopers responded to the report of a shooting at a home on East Commerce Street in Fairfield Township.

When troopers arrived, they discovered that a 30-year-old man and 25-year-old woman sustained fatal gunshot wounds, and 12 other adult victims were also shot and were already transported to area hospitals with various injuries. At this time, one of the confirmed 12 victims sustained serious injuries and is in critical condition.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy labeled the incident “cowardly.”

“Let there be no mistake: This despicable and cowardly act of gun violence only steels our commitment to ensuring New Jersey leads the nation in passing and enforcing commonsense gun safety laws,” said Gov. Murphy . “No community should ever experience what occurred last night in Fairfield.”

No arrests have been made, and the motive and shooting remain under investigation.
