At least 10 people have died and 60 have sustained injuries after an explosion hit a night market in Davao City on Friday night.

Emergency services and rescue crews are now present at the scene.

According to Davao City Police Inspector Katherine Dela Rey, at least 27 people have sustained injuries after an explosion rocked the area at the Roxas Night Market.

The blast comes after the police thwarted an assassination plot against President Duterte, who visits the city ever weekend.

President Rodrigo Duterte is reportedly in the region.

Davao City, on the southern Philippine island of Mindanao, is a coastal commercial center near 2,954m-high Mount Apo, the country’s highest peak.
