At least 29 people have been injured after an Amtrak train derailed in Kansas.

Amtrak confirmed that its Southwest Chief derailed 20 miles west of Dodge City near Cimarron.

They went on to say that 128 passengers and 14 crew members were on board at the time of the incident.

Amtrak released a statement saying: ‘Local emergency responders provided on-site response, with approximately 20 passengers transported to hospitals in Dodge City and Garden City.’

It is not known how fast the train was travelling at the time of the derailment.

An eyewitness reported to KWCH: ‘A lot of people just looking for family members. Of course all the lights went out, it was dark. People traveling in groups in four or five got thrown around the car as it turned over and lost people as they were trying to get out of the emergency exits.’
