KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. – Prosecutors have announced that the babysitter responsible for the death of a toddler in West Virginia last week has been charged.

Brittany Napier, 31, faces charges of child neglect causing death in connection with the passing of 2-year-old Za’Khi Williams.

On July 11, authorities initially responded to a home where an unresponsive child was reported. Following investigation, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Napier admitted to placing a queen-size mattress over a pack-and-play while the child was inside.

According to deputies, it is believed that the child became trapped between the mattress and the top rail of the pack-and-play, leading to the deadly incident. The ongoing investigation into this case has now been transferred to the Kanawha Bureau of Investigation.

Za’Khi’s mother shared heartfelt memories of her son, describing his love for pizza, animals, trucks, and dinosaurs.
