LEXINGTON, Ky. --- A barbecue pit master was arrested this weekend at the Danville BBQ festival after he hit another pit master with a hot brisket.

DANVILLE, Kentucky — On September 13, 2015 at approximately 10:15 a.m. Danville Police were called to the intersection of 2nd and Walnut in reference to a disturbance at the BBQ festival.

Upon arrival Officers met with Mary Berry (age 35) of Bardstown Kentucky Ms. Berry was working at the festival for Fire House BBQ.

Ms. Berry stated that she had been struck in the right shoulder, neck and head by a brisket estimated to be between 200-250 degrees.

The brisket was thrown by Mike Owings (age 42) of Cunningham Kentucky after a disagreement erupted between Owings and another BBQ pit master over the sharing of a cooker.

Mr. Owings admitted to Officers that he threw the brisket after losing his temper but “didn’t mean for anyone to get hurt.” Mr. Owings was arrested and charged with Wanton Endangerment 2nd Degree and lodged in the Boyle County Detention Center.

Ms. Berry was treated at the scene by Boyle County EMS
