DALLAS, Texas – Democratic Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders (I – VT) filled a hotel ballroom Sunday afternoon with more than 8500 supporters in Dallas, Texas. Sanders sang progressive tunes to his supporters on issues ranging from free college and no interest student loans to expanded free healthcare and twelve weeks of paid maternity leave for parents.
Campaign staff were quick to point out that Senator Sanders “was not a socialist” and that his themes would receive traction from supporters in Iowa, New Hampshire, and Texas. The crowd regularly interrupted his speech with shouts of “Bern-ie, Bern-ie.”
Sanders’ staff said he had a fifty state strategy to gain support amongst women, minorities with a focus on Latinos (hence his trip to Republican heavy Texas), and the elderly.
