DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Uvalde Station arrested a convicted sex offender who had been previously removed.

“Agents thwarted the illegal entry of another convicted sex offender,” said Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak. “This significant arrest is the result of the work done by our agents, and another example of the important role we play in national security.”

On Dec. 11, Azaraias Alvarado-Almendarez, 32, an undocumented immigrant from Honduras, was apprehended by Border Patrol agents along with two other subjects near Uvalde. During processing, agents discovered that in March 2009, Alvarado-Almendarez was convicted of sexual assault of a child in Bradenton, Florida.

Alvarado-Almendarez was sentenced to 10 years incarceration and was deported back to Honduras on July 15, 2016.

Alvarado-Almendarez faces a charge of illegal re-entry after deportation – 8 USC § 1326 – which carries a possible sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
