CALEXICO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Calexico Station arrested a gang member near the West Calexico Port of Entry on Tuesday.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., agents patrolling near downtown Calexico observed a man making an illegal entry into the United States.

Border Patrol agents apprehended the man and transported him to the Calexico Border Patrol station for processing.

Agents conducted records checks on the man which revealed he is a member of the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) criminal street gang. Agents also discovered that he was deported from the United States in November of 2012.

Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David S. Kim said, β€œThe Border Patrol is committed to making our communities safe. The arrest of this gang member is a great example of that commitment.”
