CALIFORNIA — Ray Howard Patterson, 23, has been arrested in connection with the murder of a Compton toddler.
On Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at approximately 6:58 p.m., baby Autumn Johnson was shot inside her home on the 300 block of North Holly Avenue in Compton. Responding Compton Station deputies, in a desperate attempt to save her life, rushed baby Autumn in their patrol car to a hospital. Although life-saving measures were performed by medical staff, baby Autumn succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
Johnson was shot in the face as she lay her crib.
From the LA Times: “[The father] has been criticized by the public, but [family] said he’s a good man and father. Authorities said Johnson is a gang member who could have been the target, but are still investigating the motive.”
Police did not say what led them to the suspect.
