A bus accident occurred on a New York highway Thursday, resulting in at least one fatality and multiple injuries, according to law enforcement.
The incident unfolded on Interstate 84 in the town of Wawayanda, situated approximately 45 miles northwest of New York City. Aerial footage captured by news helicopters showed the bus on its side a considerable distance from the road.
Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus told WNBC-TV that the bus was carrying approximately 45 passengers, primarily children, and at least 5 individuals sustained significant injuries. The crash took place at approximately 1:20 p.m.
Farmingdale School District issued this statement: We were informed that there had been an accident with Bus 1 en route to Greeley, PA for Band Camp. Police and emergency responders on the scene, as well as district administration. We will provide another update when more information becomes available. We ask for your patience as we gather more details.”
