Cause of Death Revealed For Former NFL Star Marion Barber

FRISCO, Texas — Former NFL running back Marion Barber was found dead at his home on June 1, 2022. He was 38-years-old.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, ‘police responded to a welfare check at Barber’s apartment because someone had called about a water leak.’ Police made entry into the home and found Barber deceased.

On Monday, the Collin County Medical Examiner said the cause of death was ‘heat stroke’ and the manner of death has been ruled accidental — No further details were released.

At the time of his death, the Dallas Cowboys said in a statement, “We are heartbroken by the tragic death of Marion Barber III. Marion was an old-school, hard-nosed football player who ran with the will to win every down. He had a passion for the game and love for his coaches and teammates. Our hearts go out to Marion’s family and friends during this difficult time.”

After playing college football for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, he was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2007 during his six-year tenure with the Cowboys.
