Tyler Sash, a safety who won a Super Bowl with the New York Giants after starring at the University of Iowa, has died at the age of 27.

IOWA — On Tuesday September 8, 2015 at around 10:00a.m. emergency services responded to 719 Fox Run Drive Oskaloosa in reference to an unresponsive male.

Upon arrival it was determined the male subject was deceased and after further investigation the male was identified as Tyler Jordan Sash, age 27, of Oskaloosa Iowa.

The death of Tyler Sash is under investigation by the Oskaloosa Police Department, Mahaska County Coroner and State Medical Examiner’s Office. No foul play is suspected.

The cause of death is unknown at this time. An autopsy will be performed tomorrow by the State Medical Examiner’s office.

From ESPN: Sash starred for Iowa, where he recorded 13 interceptions and set a team record with 392 interception return yards. He left school after his junior season and was a sixth-round pick of the Giants in the 2011 NFL draft. Sash spent two seasons with the Giants, winning a Super Bowl, before being cut in August 2013.

The NFL suspended Sash for the first four games of the 2012 season for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. Sash said he had taken the prescription drug Adderall for an anxiety condition to help him with public speaking.

In May 2014, Sash was arrested in his hometown of Oskaloosa and charged with public intoxication after leading police on a drunken scooter chase.

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz postponed his regular Tuesday news conference to Wednesday for “a private issue,” while several of Sash’s former Iowa and Giants teammates posted tributes to him on social media.
