Four schools are on lockdown and sheltering in place after a fatal shooting in Gaithersburg, authorities say. Gaithersburg Elementary School and Forest Oak Middle School are on lockdown and Gaithersburg Middle School and Washington Grove Elementary School are sheltering in place as police investigate a homicide in the 400 block of North Summit Avenue.
Montgomery County police say a man was fatally shot just before 2:30 p.m. They are searching for suspects in the area, and have put the schools on lockdown as a precatuion.
