TAMPA, FLORIDA — Early Thursday, Tampa Police received a call regarding a domestic disturbance at the residence. When officers arrived at the home, the suspect came to the front door and pointed a gun at the officers. The officers took cover and called for backup.
Once additional units arrived, including TRT, they tried for approximately 45 minutes to convince the suspect to surrender peacefully. The suspect told the officers they would have to come and get him.
Eventually, the suspect came out of the house on to the carport, with a firearm tucked into a towel around his waist. TRT officers approached the suspect telling him to show his hands and put down the gun. The suspect reached behind for his gun and fired one shot that hit the shield the officers were using for cover.
The officers returned fire, killing the man in the carport area.
No officers were injured. The woman who was in the house had scrapes and bruises, but no serious injuries. She is cooperating with police.
