Manhole Covers are Exploding In Long Beach

Long Beach, California — UPDATE: 3RD Street Between Cedar Avenue and Magnolia Avenue is closed to traffic due to an electrical fire. There was initially a threat of pressure causing man hole covers to pop off, that threat is no longer viable. Please use alternate routes to access the 710 freeway, access to the 710 freeway is available from westbound Ocean Avenue and 7th Street.

EARLIER: Long Beach police are urging residents to stay indoors until further notice due to falling debris from exploding manhole covers.

The area affected if between Daisy Ave. and Cedar Ave… And Ocean Blvd. and 5th.

Widespread power outages are also being reported. At least 2,000 customers are without electricity.

There’s apparently a fire raging in an underground vault.
