Memphis Cops Release Sketch of Suspect After Police Officer Kidnapped

TENNESSEE —  (News release / Memphis Police Department) — On June 26, 2016, at approximately 5:46 am, officers responded to a Kidnapping/Abduction at I55 and E. H. Crump. Upon arrival, officers observed a female victim on the I-55 North (St. Louis) ramp surrounded by several motorists.

The victim stated she was walking home while on the phone and upon approaching the intersection of Poplar Avenue and Hollywood, she was approached by an unknown male. The victim refused the suspect’s initial advancement.

The suspect then exited his vehicle and grabbed the victim. The suspect brandished a knife and threatened the victim as he forced her into the car.

The suspect snatched both the victim’s phone and Bluetooth and threw it out of the driver’s side window.

The victim jumped from the moving vehicle on I55 near E.H. Crump and flagged down motorists for aid. A passing trucker stopped initially yelling at suspect to leave her alone at which time suspect turned and fled into his silver van.

The victim, (31-year-old Memphis Officer Latoya McCoy), was transported to Methodist University by in non-critical condition but has since been released.

The suspect is described as a male Black, approximately 25-27 years old, 5’10” medium build, medium to dark complexion with short hair. The suspect was wearing a white T-shirt (with a possible blue design) and blue jeans.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a late model silver or grey van or crossover SUV.

A composite of the suspect has been created for release.

No one is in custody at this time.
