BREAKING: Mother of Children Found Dead In Home Charged With Murder

EAST HAVEN, CT. — Two young children were found dead from a suspicious gas leak in New Haven Tuesday, June 2nd. The scene was near Strong and View streets.

A neighbor had called 911 around 2:40 p.m. to report the incident, telling dispatchers, “My friend sent me a letter that she was going to kill herself,” NBC Connecticut reported.

The child victims were identified as Aleisha, 6, and Daaron, 8. They were found inside the home.

The mother, Leroya Moore, 36, was ill from the exposure and had cuts on her arms, she was outside when Officers arrived. She and three police officers were taken to the hospital.

Police say it appears the gas had been intentionally turned on inside the home.

Today, police obtained an arrest warrant for Moore. She is charged with two counts of murder and reckless endangerment.

The father of the children was notified of what happened and was “devastated,” police said.

INITIAL PRESS RELEASE: On June 2, 2015 at 2:41 PM, the East Haven Police Department along with the East Haven Fire Department responded to #541 Strong Street, East Haven, CT for a medical emergency. Upon arriving at the address, officers located a despondent 36 year old female resident with apparent injuries. Upon further investigation, responding officers entered the residence and found an active gas leak within.

While checking the residence for more occupants, officers located a deceased 5 year old and 7 year old. No other occupants of the residence were located. Responding officers exited the residence until fire personnel and the gas company could make the residence safe.

Due to the exposure from the gas, three responding police officers were treated on scene by the East Haven Fire Department and later transported by AMR Ambulance to Yale-New Haven Hospital. Additionally, the 36 year old resident, whom is the mother of the deceased children was also transported via ambulance to Yale-New Haven Hospital. All three officers and the 36 year old resident were all being treated for non-life threatening injuries. No names are being released at this time pending notification of the next of kin.

This investigation is being conducted by the East Haven Police Department Detective Division with assistance from the CT State Police Major Crime Squad, New Haven State’s Attorney’s Office, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
