CANADA — A tourist vessel with 27 people on board has sunk off Tofino, British Columbia in Canada.
There are multiple fatalities reported. Rescue crews are responding to the scene to search for survivors.
The vessel made a mayday call shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday.
“There are fatalities involved and survivors. We are also conducting a search to confirm that we’ve recovered everybody,” stated a recorded message at the Coast Guard rescue co-ordination center.
Brandon Hilbert from Tofino Water Taxi told CBS local companies were helping with the rescue effort.
From The Globe & Mail: Media reports stated that Jamie’s Whale Watching had confirmed the boat belonged to their company.
High speed boats routinely take whale watchers out along the West Coast to view whales in Clayoquot Sound.
