Taipei, TAIWAN — Casualties have been reported after a section of a commuter train exploded and burst into flames on Thursday.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion before flames engulfed the coach.
Taipei’s emergency services have responded to the scene, the fire has since been extinguished.
The exact cause of the blast is not yet known.
Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, is a modern metropolis with Japanese colonial lanes, busy shopping streets and contemporary buildings.
Local media has reported that at least 21 people have been injured as a result of the incident, this has not yet been verified.
