Police Nab Suspects After Armed Jewelry Store Robbery at FL. Mall

FLORIDA — Fort Lauderdale Police have apprehended an armed suspect near the Galleria Mall.

According to NBC Miami, a gunman held up the Mayor’s Jewelers store around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Some stores locked their doors with patrons inside, while other shoppers fled the mall.

From The Sun-Sentinel:  “Five suspects led police on a chase on westbound Sunrise Boulevard to southbound Interstate 95, where the gray or silver SUV continued into Miami-Dade County. Reports indicate the vehicle got off the interstate at 79th Street and went east.”

There is a huge police presence in the area.

The police department confirmed the arrest in a Tweet: “ARMED ROBBERY MAYORS JEWELRY (2414 E Sunrise Blvd) Active Scene Suspects In Custody after pursuit”

No further information was available.

The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale is an upscale shopping mall in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It was originally the Sunrise Center, an open-air shopping mall constructed in 1954, but was demolished and rebuilt as an enclosed mall.
