SOUTH CAROLINA — One victim is dead following a shooting and hostage-taking at a restaurant in downtown Charleston—the scene is in the 400 block of King Street.

The suspect fatally shot one person and was holding hostages inside of a restaurant called ‘Virginia’s on King.’ The Mayor says the shooter, a disgruntled employee, was later shot by police and is in critical condition.

King Street between Calhoun and Morris was blocked off to motorist and pedestrian traffic.

Nearby schoold and businesses were placed on lockdown—-residents were urged to avoid the area.

“Right now the streets are full of SWAT and police and people heavily armed. They are blocking off the whole block,” a witness told CNN.

Crisis negotiators were on scene and were contacting members of the suspect’s family to try and talk him down.

Images from the scene showed a shattered glass door.
