CALIFORNIA — San Diego police officials were searching for suspect who doused a man in gasoline and set him on fire Sunday.

The incident took place at ‘the 1700 block of Pentecost Way in San Diego’s Oak Park neighborhood near a Riteaid, just north of State Route 94.’

Police say the suspect lured the victim into his car, doused him with an accelerant and set him on fire.

The victim was badly burned and taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

From NBC-San Diego: “Misti Cardenas, a witness and friend of the victim, said she watched her friend burn. She said a man got out of his truck, leaving the driver’s door open, and walked up to her and her friend.

The man asked her for water, Cardenas said, and when she told him she didn’t have any, he stared at her with a “weird expression.” “

A description of the suspect was known but police told the station they are looking for a two-door pickup truck.

It was unclear what provoked the attack.

No further details were available.
