A Chinese ship hunting for the missing Malaysia Airlines jet has detected a “pulse” signal in the Indian Ocean, China’s state news agency CCTV said Saturday. China’s Haixun 01 marine surveillance ship detected signals with a frequency of 37.5 kHz per second, CCTV said in a tweet. The frequency of 37.5 kHz per second is currently the international standard frequency for the underwater locator beacon on a plane’s “black box.” A high-level U.S. government official told NBC News that the information had not yet been corroborated and therefore could not be verified.
