At least one U.S. service member has been killed after two separate incidents in southern Afghanistan.
Reuters reports that the forces were involved in a counter-terrorism operation near Helman province when they were attacked.
Officials have confirmed that a U.S. medevac helicopter was requested to recover casualties.
It is not currently known if the helicopter was hit by enemy fire.
NBC has reported that he helicopter landed to receive the casualties, the crew then expressed they were experiencing mechanical problems.
