(VINE GROVE, KY.) – Kentucky State Police in Elizabethtown are investigating an apparent murder-suicide. On May 11, 2015 at approximately 8:53 PM, the Vine Grove Police Department responded to a call of multiple gunshot victims at 314 Willow Crossing Court in Vine Grove, KY.

Upon arrival, responding units discovered two deceased victims lying in a side yard. The Hardin County Coroner and the Kentucky State Police were requested to the scene and are the investigative agencies of record.

The investigation is ongoing but the preliminary findings indicate an apparent murder/suicide. The victims have been identified as John Jonas (49) of Vine Grove, and his 11 year old daughter. Autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday morning at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville.

From WAVE3: “Kentucky State Police believe Lieutenant Colonel John Jonas shot Tasha and then turned the gun on himself. One neighbor, who did not wish to be identified, believes Jonas may have called police right before. She said she heard the shots and not long after officers were at her door asking if they had seen their neighbor. By that point her husband made the horrific discovery.

“He looked around this truck and told the officer here they are right here laying in the yard,” the woman said. She said Jonas was in uniform.”

The soldier allegedly suffered from PTSD. No further information was available.
