The Gang Unit had developed information that Almahmmody was at the M-Star motel on Metroplex Drive.  They saw Almahmmody in the parking lot, but before they could stop him, he got into a vehicle and sped away after seeing the officers.  Almahmmody drove across Harding Place and onto S. Perimeter Park Drive before turning onto Perimeter Hill Drive.  When he reached the Antioch Pike intersection, he crashed into the garbage truck.  Gang Unit detectives arrived as Almahmmody was trying to escape through the window of his damaged vehicle.  He was taken into custody at that point and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to be treated for non-critical injuries related to the crash.

Almahmmody, 23, is accused of murdering Kenny Hatcher, 18, Tuesday night by firing shots from a black Infiniti sedan as Hatcher stood outside 2118 Vine Hill Road with friends.  The car is alleged to have been driven by Almahmmody’s girlfriend, Tristen Jade Bowen, 18.  She will be arrested for murder upon her discharge from a psychiatric hospital.

Detective Anthony Chandler from the Midtown Hills Precinct is leading the murder investigation.  He and officers throughout the police department had been searching for Almahmmody since Thursday night.
