Deputy US Marshal Killed In Baton Rouge Was Expecting Baby With His Wife

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana –Deputy Josie Wells comes from a family of public servants. His brother is a sergeant in the Jackson Police Department. The Associated Press reports his wife was expecting a child.

The shooting broke out Tuesday morning at a hotel.

The Marshal was taken to the hospital by other deputies, WAFB reports. The other individual was taken to a hospital suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

WBRZ reports, The officer was dead on arrival at the hospital.

The marshal was Deputy Josie Wells, 28, the coroner in East Baton Rouge Parish said. He was based in Mississippi, said U.S. Marshal Kevin Harrison.

Harrison and other officials weren’t disclosing details of the case other than the suspect’s name: Jamie Croom.

Croom was wanted on first-degree murder charges in the deaths of two people.

Details surrounding the reported shooting are still coming in, and law enforcement agencies have made no official comments at this time.
