KANSAS – (Wichita Police Department / News Release) – Shortly after 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Wichita Police Department (WPD) Officers responded to a call of a disturbance with a weapon in the area of 13th and Webb. Multiple 911 callers reported a female at Whole Foods acting strangely, drinking, and brandishing a firearm. Witnesses reported the female pointing a gun at windows of the store, and toward the parking lot.

When officers arrived, they attempted to make contact with the female who was in the entryway of the grocery store. As officers approached, they observed the female holding a firearm and begin retreating into the store. Officers gave multiple commands to the female to drop the gun, but she did not comply. The female then fired one shot toward the officers, and both officers returned fire with multiple shots striking the female. After shots were fired, the officers rendered aid and placed the female in custody. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. She has been identified as 31-year-old Danielle Robinson.

Interviews with various witnesses on scene revealed that Robinson had been at the store consuming alcohol and attempted to rob a customer of their personal belongings. Upon release from the hospital, she will be booked into jail on various charges including aggravated assault, aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer and aggravated
robbery.

The two officers involved in this incident have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard protocol in officer involved shootings. Their tenures with the department are 8 years and 19 years.

The investigation is ongoing.

“This was a deeply troubling event and we are grateful for the safety of our Team Members and customers,” Whole Foods said in a statement. “We are cooperating with the investigation and are focused on supporting our Team Members in the days ahead.”
