Mexican authorities announced on Friday that a bride was apprehended on her wedding day as part of an extortion scheme involving her prospective husband and six other individuals.

The woman, only identified as Nancy N. by Mexico state prosecutors, was taken into custody last month during a coordinated operation as she prepared to marry her spouse, identified as Clemente N., another suspect in the extortion case. The groom, known by the alias “Mouse,” managed to evade capture.

The couple belonged to a larger group accused of extorting chicken merchants in Toluca, near Mexico City, and were implicated in the suspected kidnapping of four workers from a poultry shop in the same area, according to authorities. Among the eight suspects arrested, Santiago N. was accused of using an “Explorer-type truck” to transport the kidnapped victims.

The prosecutor’s office released photos of the individuals involved in the extortion scheme, along with a video montage depicting Nancy N. in handcuffs, still clad in her wedding dress, and images of purported evidence.

Authorities suggest that the suspects have connections to the La Familia Michoacana drug cartel.
