On Saturday December 7, 2013, at 1035 hours, two uniformed police officers assigned to the Transit District 33 were conducting patrol duties at the elevated Myrtle Avenue “J” train station within the confines of the 81st Precinct.  As the officers walked down to street level they observed a male striking the hood of their patrol car with a wooden cane.  The officers ordered the male to stop, the male fled and the officers followed.  The suspect was stopped in front of 874 Broadway where the female officer confronted the suspect, still armed with the cane, with her expandable baton.  The suspect then struck the female officer with the cane across the left side of her face with the force of the impact breaking the cane into two pieces.  The assault caused bruising, swelling and lacerations to the officer’s face.  As the suspect was going to strike again the injured officer’s partner discharged his weapon one time striking the suspect one time in the upper torso area.  The 27 year old suspect was removed to Kings County Hospital in stable condition and both officers were removed to Wyckoff Hospital also in stable condition.  The investigation is ongoing and charges against the suspect are pending.
