Authorities in France have now begun the demolition of a section inside a migrant camp in Calais.
Police entered the migrant camp on Monday morning to help clear the way for the bulldozers.
The local government last week announced that one third of the camp is to be destroyed, the area is home to over 1,500 migrants.
French authorities constructed purpose-built housing for the migrants, but most refused the offer, despite the £20million price-tag.
Wooden huts, flimsy tarpaulin and containers covered in graffiti are being burned ahead of the clearing.
The new camp is surrounded by fences, which some refugees claim will put a stop to their nightly attempts to reach Britain.
The new purpose built camp, which was built by French authorities, cost in excess of £20million, it comes fully furnished with power sockets, heated towel rails, toilets and washing facilities.
The migrant camp has tranformed into a slum with mosques, a church and even shops.
There are a reported 6,000 people who currently live within the camp.
