LOS ANGELES — A woman has been charged with killing a 75-year-old woman at her Pasadena home.
Mary Jean O’Connor, 41, a homeless woman in the North Hollywood area, faces one count of murder.
Victim Jeri Douglas was discovered strangled to death by police performing a welfare check on Dec. 17, prosecutors said.
A motive for the killing is still unknown but “detectives do not believe this murder was a random act of violence,” police said.
If convicted as charged, O’Connor faces a possible maximum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison. Bail is set at $2 million.
Deputy District Attorney Ryan Erlich is the assigned prosecutor.
The case remains under investigation by the Pasadena Police Department.
