LOS ANGELES — A 39-year-old woman was sentenced today to three years and eight months in state prison for posing as a teenager and sending threatening letters to a high school.
Magaly Esmeralda Alvarenga of Rialto pleaded no contest on July 25 to two counts of criminal threats and one count of stalking.
Deputy District Attorney Elyse Rendon said between December 2017 and May 2018, Alvarenga sent several letters with threats to St. Lucy’s Catholic School in Glendora and signed the documents with the initials of a student.
On May 10 and May 23, the defendant sent two additional letters that contained white powder and drugs, according to evidence presented at the preliminary hearing.
The case was investigated by the Glendora Police Department.
